Editor, the Advocate:
Opinions are like noses - everyone has one - but variety is one of the spices of life that we all get to enjoy. My profession is not a dining connoisseur; however, I can speak of what makes a dining experience enjoyable for me. My profession has allowed me to have some "memorable" dining experiences. There are some items that really stick out in my mind. My first tastes of couscous in the outbacks of Australia. My first experience with a churrascaria was in a small town in Brazil, where I did not recognize anything on the platter - I was later able to have the pleasure to experience other churrascarias in Sao Paulo and Houston, which were delicious. My first and last tastes of some items were escargot in Paris, ox tail soup in Indonesia, a Japanese breakfast of Miso Soup and fish in Tokyo. After my travels, I am always eager to come home to Texas - which for me has the most variety of scrumptious restaurants in the entire world.
When in Victoria, my restaurant of choice is Athena's where I enjoy the salads, the appetizers and other various main dishes. I prefer dining there over restaurants such as Montana Mikes, Texas Roadhouse, etc. Although, I am not a restaurant critic by profession, my criteria for a good restaurant is, of course, first and foremost good food. Secondly, a pleasant atmosphere where I can carry on a conversation with friends and family. Lastly, which helps me decide on how often I will frequent an establishment, a reasonable price for the meal. I felt Athena's passed all three of my prerequisites. If a person's priority is to get in and get out with minimal tete-a-tete with others outside their group, and you enjoy salads, then I would recommend Wendy's salads, but my preference would be the Greek chicken salad at Athena's. To each his own viewpoints and personal preferences! Bon appetit.
